Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.

Here at St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Daceyville, we work as a school-parish community and recognise our responsibility to nurture our students and educate them about the world around them. Throughout the year, our social justice students have the opportunity to meet regularly and work on projects to support our local and global communities. The school community regularly supports the St Vincent de Paul night patrol kitchen with monthly food donations and sandwich making mornings. Support is given to Caritas and Catholic Mission through our Lenten appeal and other fundraising initiatives. We also raise funds to help support the charities of our founding religious orders, the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and the Marist Brothers.

St Michael’s has a very close relationship with our local nursing home, where there are regular visits. The children often read, sing or dance and make Christmas and Mother’s Day cards and gifts for the residents. Other organisations receiving our assistance are: OZHarvest, RU OK? and CatholicCare as well as various community events.
